Qualification

The honours class in Geobiology will give you a wealth of qualifications:

  • understand the chemical principles controlling the distribution of elements in the environment
  • understand the role of microbes in the cycling of bio-active elements in the environment
  • be able to use cutting-edge techniques to determine the rates of important microbial processes in nature
  • be able to use cutting-edge techniques to identify microbial populations in natural environments and to determine their diversity
  • understand how microbes interface with and affect geological materials including how they influence weathering processes
  • understand the history of life and the influence of life’s evolution on the biogeochemical cycling of elements and Earth surface chemistry
  • be able to quantitatively express the biogeochemical cycling of elements through time and space
  • be able to design and implement a field research project 



Academic Career

The Geobiology Module Honours Class is offered as a part of the masters education in Biology. The module couples well with the “Research” profile package.
